Siesta Key Crystal Classic.

Master Sand Sculpting Competition

The inaugural competition was held November 18 – 21, 2010 on Siesta Key Beach. The sculptors came from all parts of the country and in some cases from overseas. They were vying for $25,000 worth of prizes with $9,000 going to the winner. Check the Englewood Blog for more on the contest.

The event was very well organized, with parking available at the beach in a reserved section or a shuttle bus was provided from Phillipi Park to the event. Vendors had their stalls outside of the sculptors areas and paid admission was collected for those who wanted to observe at close hand. Proceeds from the Crystal Classic go to benefit the Mote Marine Laboratory Sea Turtle Conservation and Research program.
